I'm usually the one behind the camera, not in front! I'm a Middle School French teacher by trade, but I'm currently on maternity leave with my nearly 6 month old twins. They're known collectively in blogland as Double Trouble (DT) or indvidually as GT and BT. I've been quilting for 17 years and loving fabric for a whole lot longer. I can't say I was always a modern quilter, but floral was never my thing!B.JPG)

A few short snappers about me:
- I have a mild obsession with Kona. (See Kona Love)
- I'm a life long Girl Guide. And yes, I have cookies for sale.
- Sewing is my favourite form of stress management (apart from chocolate).
- I am a strong proponent of breakfast dessert.
- My travel research always includes local quilt shops.
- I am unable to resist watching the following movies if I come across them on TV: Footloose, Forest Gump, and School of Rock. And I usually have TV shows or movies playing while I sew.
- My first ever quilt was a queen sized double Irish chain that I quilted horizontally & vertically every 2 inches.... on my little 'ole Singer. It was forest green... yikes!
- My dream job? Nail polish color namer (or Kona namer... I'm not picky!)
- Some items on my quilty bucket list: Hawaiian appliqué, orange peel, and something made with every colour of the Kona rainbow.

It's far from my only WIP, just the one I'm the most excited about! There's always at least half a dozen on the go... I keep a list that's updated each January.

ReplyDeleteIf I had a million dollars? What a great idea for a song. No, wait, that`s been done before! Where do I start? I would build an addition to my house to expand my sewing room and hire someone who`s job would be to keep said room constantly organized and cleaned without me having to do anything about it ;)

ReplyDeleteDT is almost 6 months old already?! Shew, the time flies!! And a million dollars...man we could use that around here. Lol. I'd be finding a new home and getting the hubs and I dependable vehicles. After that, I'm not totally sure. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would pay off the mortgage on our house. Not very exciting - but definitely the first thing I would do with extra money like that... And I do hope I get to see the quilt you make with every color of the Kona rainbow. Goodness, that sounds awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteHummmm, if I won a million dollars, I'd pay off the mortgage of my house and my brother's (5 kids) and add a huge sewing/art room onto my house! Then I would find a lovely farmhouse to use as a quilting retreat near water (lake, river, stream, or ocean) for family and friends. I would help the grandkids and nephews with college expenses too! I'm a member of the Modern Bee in The St. Augustine Piecemakers Quilt Guild.

ReplyDeleteoh so many things come to mind 'first' to do if i ever had a million dollars. but top of the list every time is TRAVEL! Australia, Italy, Denmark, England, Western US, etc. etc. etc. :)
ReplyDeleteJenn it is really nice to learn little more about you. I loved your list and have always thought it would be fun to be the one who dreams up names for paint. Well that million dollar question is easy. I'd help family and would especially want to give my kids a jump start to help them reach for their dreams.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post from an awesome quilter! A million dollars...what fun that would be. I would pay our bills, my children's bills, take a trip and then renovate my sewing room and buy a longarm and stock the room like a fabric shop.

ReplyDeleteI do belong to two quilt guilds here in St. John's and modern quilting is a passion for quite a number of the quilters but no guild that is specifically 'modern'.

I belong to Quilt Italia which is the Italian version of a Guild. We're becoming more and more modern too!

ReplyDeleteGreat post, great projects! I play the million dollar game a lot, too and the ways it would be spent change slightly each time. What stays the same is that I would share it with family and see how far it would go making all of us a little more comfortable.
ReplyDeleteWow - if I had a million dollars I'd start by taking my family to Europe, and to Canada of course. My husband has been to London and Berlin, but the rest of us haven't been to Europe and would love to go.
ReplyDeleteI"m a member of Capital Quilters in Wellington, New Zealand. We don't have a Modern quilting guild, but all us "young" modern ones belong to Capital Quilters.

ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you what I'd do with a million dollars. I'd set up an organization to fund quilt making classes in economically challenged areas. I think it would help with self esteem issues, relieve stress, and give someone new skills where they could see the value of taking small steps plus have something handmade.

Wow a million dollars!! Since we're already planning on building our retirement home in New Brunswick, I'd be sure to modify the plans to include a really large sewing room! I'd make donations to charity and money gifts to family members. Possibly buy some more fabric!!

ReplyDeleteI'd first pay off my house. What a relief that would be! Then I'd have a lot left over, to pay off my sister's house, and my mom's house. Then I'd probably buy a long arm, take some time off work, sleep, quilt, and eat a lot, and put effort into finding a job I'm more passionate about.

ReplyDeleteJust loving your work! I'm finally able to hop...better late than never, and have been enjoying the little journey. If I had a million dollars, first I'd buy a long arm, property with a barn to turn into a studio, and then I'd spend the rest on purchasing land to keep it out of the hands of developers.

ReplyDeleteVery first, I'd buy my parents a house, a big truck for my husband (so he can quit being teased about his little one), and well the time of someone to clean my house so I could sew more.
ReplyDeleteGood question...I'd probably do something practical like put away a little nest egg for the kiddies and hubby and I. Then the fun begins and do something special for my loved ones...Camaro for hubby, something for the kids and dream sewing machine for me (any suggestions?)
