Welcome to my stop on the Dog Gone Cute Blog Hop! I'm very excited to be showcasing (yet another) incredibly cute animal pattern by the lovely and creative Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts. She's so generous with her creativity... if you're not a follower, you should be!
You can read more about the early stages of making these critters here and here.
For my project, I opted to make two small quilts, just 25½ by 18½ inches. They're destined to tuck around my 11½ month old twins in their car seats when winter sets in. And I hit my Cotton & Steel stash hard! BT's quilt features pups #4, #5, #7, and #2 (clockwise from upper left) made from Dottie in Night Owl and XOXO in Ghost.

And for GT's quilt, I went for pups #1, #3, #6 and #8 using Cotton & Steel's XOXO in On the Rocks and Netorious in Ivory.
Both quilts have C&S Sprinkle in Black Cat as the background, as well as Dottie in Cotton Candy for the inner ears and Netorious in Black Cat for the eyes.
To keep these quilts cozy, I used black polar fleece - a first for me! I was a little nervous about the fleece shifting during the quilting process, so I spray basted and pinned. I also decided not to FMQ as originally planned. Instead, I did random straight line quilting in black thread. Wherever possible, I outlined the pups.

I can never resist a gratuitous binding shot. Since I only had FQs of these C&S's Basics, I went with scrappy pieced bindings.
And now for a trade secret from A Quarter Inch from the Edge! How does one mark their rounded corners? With an emergency snack pack of rice cakes, of course!
Then on went the bias cut binding!
It was a gorgeous Nova Scotian fall day when the pups went outside to play in the leaves. I just couldn't resist snapping a few non-quilty pics!
It's the last day of the blog hop, so I hope you're not all tuckered out from the Dog Gone Cuteness. Click on over to these other blogs who are showcasing their finished projects today.Abigail of Cut & Alter

P.P.S Don't forget that next Friday is Throwback Thursday here at A Quarter Inch from the Edge. It's your chance to link-up an oldie but goodie (or not so goodie) from your dark and twisty quilty past. See you on November 6th!
These turned out so well. The polar fleece sounds snuggly and warm, and I would have taken many precautions to avoid shifting when quilting, it too. The scrappy binding works so well with the scrappy pups. I bet DT will look so cute in their car seats snuggled under these! Also, I have a draft of my Throwback Thursday post in my scheduled posts, so I will be ready. :)
ReplyDeleteAwww! Those two litters of perky pups turned out so adorable! Of course they look fabulous in the C&S prints and I love that you went with a fleece backing. The quilting looks great! So cute to have a twin set of pups for those two wee ones to keep warm in the car.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful little fleecy quilts for the car ! They turned out so adorably cute with the pups and your beautiful fabrics!!
ReplyDeleteSusie
Really like the curved binding - these will be so fun wrapped around your twins!
ReplyDeleteYour twins will be riding snuggle in style with those cute little puppies! I love impromptu quilting tools! Nice use of the rice cakes :)
ReplyDeleteCute, cute, cute little quilts full of sweet pups! Your twins love them, I'm sure. I laughed at the use of those rice cakes for the round corners...my kind of thinking!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Car quilts for your twins, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteCuteness overload!!! Great backing fabric. DT will be snug as a bug in a rug.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for the twins. Lovely work all the way around.
ReplyDeleteThose look adorable! DT will be so warm and stylish in their car seats!
ReplyDeleteThey're so cute! I love them! :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute and love the little trick with the rice cakes!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts!!! Thanks for the idea on how to round the edges.
ReplyDeletevery cute puppies!
ReplyDeleteI think it is funny you are using Fat Cat fabric to make puppies. Very cute quilts for very cute kiddos. 😃
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely finishes - and two to boot!! I love the dark background on them and I'm sure they will be well used and loved by the twins this winter and in the future. Great finish.
ReplyDeleteYay! Finally your day! And not to disappoint, you crafted some lovelies! What a great idea, and just as cute as can be. Love the photo shoot, too! XO
ReplyDeleteAnother fantastic idea for these adorable pups! Those fleece-backed covers are going to be perfect on those chilly days! Nice finish!
ReplyDeleteI love how these came out. Since you used polar fleece for the backing, did you leave out the batting, or go ahead and add it?
ReplyDeleteReally cute quilts. Love the rounded edges. These will be snuggly warm in the cold weather for your twins to be wrapped up in.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea for car seat quilts. I really like how the outlines of the pups show up on the back--and the fleece will be snuggly warm and easy to keep in place.
ReplyDeleteYeah for doggie quilts. I want to try fleece on the back after feeling these lovely little quilts.
ReplyDeleteLove your C&S puppies! (Dottie is a favorite of mine - it works everywhere.) I really like how you quilted these, too. They looks so cozy and warm. Thanks for the tip on curving the corners! Whatever works!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable! They look so soft and cozy too, perfect for keeping little ones warm in the car.
ReplyDeleteRice cake rounded corners - good tip!
ReplyDeleteThis is just about the size I plan to make for a humidicrib. Thanks for confirming that four pups will be the perfect number!
Love these little quilts. They are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi! These are really adoarable puppy quilts! x Teje
ReplyDeleteso so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, these twin quilts are precious. Although I have never used polar fleece, I have made two quilts backed with minky-snuggle. I had no problems free motion quilting them-the first time I ever free motion quilted anything (I figured why not just jump in with both feet right away). Spray basting works great and I didn't even use pins. I do have some great hints that I discovered on my own that really helped me if you are interested. Karen
ReplyDeleteTotal puppy cuteness...× 2! ♡♡♡ Nice job!
