I carved out a little studio time whilst Double Trouble were napping... one must be prepared to drop the task in progress at any moment. Must work quickly.... so I opted to make a hanging sleeve for Honey. You know, my last Library Project quilt. Exciting? No. Smallest item on The List? Yes. Anticipating the cheap thrill of crossing out a completed item? Hell, yes!!!
I went searching on my Pinterest boards for the hanging sleeve tutorial I'd used in the past, but the link was dead. Sad, very sad. I ended up using a tutorial that Mr. Google helped me find - this one. It seems very similar to the one I used before...
With careful pressing, this sleeve tents up. It gives you enough slack to insert a rod or bar without it making a visible bump on your quilt when you hang it.
Now it's all pinned and ready to stitch when TV time comes and I don't have a baby in my arms... whenever that is.
It really ticks me off that the edge of my quilt isn't straight. Nope, not a camera trick, people. I don't know why things don't turn out exactly square.... probably because I refuse to trim using a ruler. Hmmm... might be the reason. Anyway. It's not going in a show (at least not one where anyone would care!), so I've decided to practice embracing imperfection and move on. ☺
Annndddd.... since it's Wednesday, I'm linking up with Let's Bee Social organized by the lovely Lorna over at Sew Fresh Quilts and WiP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced. Hi. My name is Jenn and I'm a link-aholic...for this post anyway.

I have such a hard time getting my quilts square too. And I do use a ruler! I think I just need more practice, mine are getting better... Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI do love scratching an item off the list, and hate when there is some delay like this! Very frustrating. Hopefully it's wonkiness won't make it hang crooked!
ReplyDeletePerfection is unattainable and highly over rated. Hope you get a chance to get your hand stitching accomplished! Looking good!
ReplyDeleteWho cares about the size of the project, ticking something of the list is an awesome feeling! It will be fun to see it hanging in your sewing room soon. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to mark things off your list. And the way I look at it, imperfections are what make handmade so wonderful. Someone else might make a quilt using that pattern, but no one else will have one exactly like yours.
ReplyDeleteWI never manage to get my quilts completely square either. I figure that since I'm not entering them in contests it's ok.
ReplyDeleteCrossing items off a list is such sweet satisfaction! Sometimes I break my big tasks down into lots of little ones so I can make progress and cross them off. My list might be longer, but it will move faster and that's motivating. ;) I don't see where it might not be square, I think it looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on embracing imperfection myself.
ReplyDeleteI think you would be the only one to see this tiny imperfection and call it a flaw. Instead think if it as a unique characteristic, a beauty mark.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it feel great to cross something off the list ... no matter how small? yeh-ha!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be so inspirational hanging in your sewing room. I haven't tried to attach a hanging sleeve to anything yet....maybe someday. It's the hand stitching that turns me off lol. Congrats on getting it closer :) You're almost to the finish :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it hanging on the wall. Small or not -- it's something crossed off the list.
ReplyDeleteI have to make a hanging sleeve for a wallhanging I just finished. Are you going to hand stitch that on?
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to mark something of the list - gives one a feeling of TA DA.
ReplyDeleteLove your attitude! Get something done when you have a chance and don't sweat the details. Life is much easier that way, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI need a workshop on squaring quilts.
ReplyDeleteWait, we're supposed to use a ruler to square quilts up? ;)
ReplyDeleteHope all is going well and i'm glad to see that you're finding time to sew as often as you can! Even if it is the smallest project on the list. It still feels good to tick it off :)
Great to start off the year crossing things off your list!
ReplyDeleteRefuse to trim using a ruler? Scissors?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the hanging sleeves I use (as a friend explained them to me). I rarely add hanging sleeves as I make quilts for couches and beds, but when I do I have sewn mine into the binding, but I think I like the removable option.
