Throwback Thursday {Volume 12}

TBT - The Farmhouse Edition! This month's throwback was made as a Christmas gift in 2005 for Himself's parents. It still hangs (on rotation) in their home and when we visited last week-end, I took the opportunity to snap some pics!
It's another McKenna Ryan design, Story Book Farm. The house in the block reminded me of the family homestead and I adapted the colours to make it a little more like the Z's house.
The quilt and clothes on the line are 3D. It was a tricky process, but it created a unique look and has held up well for a decade.
It was so tough quilting that little crow! If only I knew about Lara B's Crafted Appliqué method back then. My crow wouldn't have quite so many feathers.
So many batiks... but they work for McKenna Ryan designs! And so many thread colour changes for the quilting. Yikes!

For this month's giveaway, I'm diving into the stash again. I've been a little quiet lately about The Year of the Stash, but I haven't forgotten! The winner will receive a custom 4 fat quarter bundle. Colour, style... it's up to them! A little caveat - it won't be mailed until Canada Post resolves it's pesky little labour dispute. How to win?

  1. Link-up a blog post telling all about a quilt from your past. Don't forget to link to A Quarter Inch from the Edge in your post or grab the Throwback Thursday button for your sidebar.
  2. Leave a comment - let me know how you're spending this first real week of summer. (It's not summer until the Canada Day week-end in my books!)
The giveaway is open to International participants until Sunday, July 10th at 11:55pm Atlantic Time.

Next month will be Throwback Thursday's one year anniversary! How has one year gone by so quickly? Join us on Thursday, August 4th.

  2. Actually, summer seems just to have arrived in this part of south west France too. But after weeks of rain there is such a lot of cutting back and weeding to do in the garden so that Is what I have been up to.

  3. Jen, the little quilt in the wall hanging is so cute. The shading in the batiks when used in a scene like just brings it to life.

  4. I love the 3d aspect of this quilt, that is so cool! My first real week of summer will be spent the same as every other week, working! But now I'm dreaming of camping and beaches and all the fun things I'd love to do! Lol

  6. Summer is in full swing in the sunny south (Alabama). Mostly staying indoors to avoid the humid, high 90s days. But the weather is always good for quilting. Love your quilt!

  7. Just finished City Sampler quilt Top! And I'm filling in forms for 10 quilts entries to be in an Oct quilt show here in PEI. Lots of quilty hours this Week!

  8. Your sweet quilt has everything I love--landscape, house, tiny quilt. It looks great, but yes, wouldn't it be fun to do parts of it with Lara's technique? I don't use batiks much anymore--except in landscapes. They're indispensable for the kinds like to make! I have been sewing/quilting like a woman possessed on a wedding gift quilt. All I have left to do is the handstitching of the binding to the back. WooHoo!

  11. I love the little quilt on the line. We are working all summer but we did have the boat out today--Brighton to Trenton, through 2 locks on the Trent River, then back again. And himself caught a small mouth bass while my daughter and I were swimming, do a good day all around!
