This month, I'm featuring a quilt that's near and dear to my heart. I know, I know... I've said that before, but this one really is special.
It all began with a Christmas gift. Himself spent some quality time on eBay and found a fat quarter bundle of one of my favourite designers, Amy Butler. It featured prints from her Midwest Modern and Midwest Modern 2 lines in the Ohio Sky colour pathway.
But how to make a quilt to snuggle under with a FQ bundle? Enter Kona Robin Egg in all it's loveliness.
I'm pretty sure this quilt is the first time I got into using Kona on a large scale. Amy Butler's fabric notoriously does not play well with others and I wanted quilt just for me that was large enough to be useful. It's definitely the first time I sourced backing fabric on-line - Amy Butler's Martini. Where the line was a little older, it was tricky finding a large enough quantity for the backing, but I prevailed! I over ordered and have been using it for years. There's even some in DT's Plus Two quilts.
This quilt is not without issues. My foray into diagonal straight line quilting has not worn well. Popped stitches abound... as seen in this pic.
But there is much love and comfort that has soaked into the crinklyness of this quilt. I reach for it when hanging out on the couch and when a fort blanket is needed at play time. It has spent as many nights in hospital as I have, joining me in my early pregnancy illness and on the post partum floor. It is part of our family.Though I don't share many pics of DT, I can't resist this one. It's a fav. First time snuggling with a quilt. An expert from the get go.
I look forward to two little lifetimes of loving this quilt. The more time I spend with it and the kiddos, the more love works its way in. And that's the best part of any quilt - whether you're sewing it or curled up under it.
Now it's your turn! Link up a blog post about a project from your dark, quilty past. There is, of course, a little prize in the works! In keeping with 2016 being The Year of the Stash, I'm offering up a custom charm pack from my stash.
The winner even gets to choose the colour pathway! How to win? There are three ways.
- Link-up a blog post telling all about a quilt from your past. Don't forget to link to A Quarter Inch from the Edge in your post or grab the Throwback Thursday button for your sidebar.
- Leave a comment on this post telling me about the most loved quilt in your home.
- Leave a comment telling me how you follow A Quarter Inch from The Edge.
Can't wait to ready your quilty tales! And if you didn't manage a post this month, no worries. There's always {Volume 7} on Thursday, February 4th. A complete list of dates for 2016 can be found under the Throwback Thursday tab.

P.S. If you're wondering about the pattern for the quilt profiled above, it's an adaptation of City View from Connecting Threads.
This is a great quilt Jen! Popped stitches are just proof that it's bursting with love!
ReplyDeleteThe most used quilt here is probably a toss up between the Lil Twister lap quilt on my big chair and Not-So-Little PurpleBoots' Izz-A-Boo quilt. All of my quilts are loved, but only a few get used... I have several well loved vintage quilts that are now too fragile to use. Mr. PurpleBoots' Ma was a quilter and one day, brace yourself, threw out 4 old quilts. I had just moved into a cottage and owned very little bedding so you know how that turned out. I have a couple "new" ones she made us, but I loved the old rescues more. With a house full of dog, I have always been rather careful about leaving quilts out and aboat. Silly, I know, but I can't help myself. The stack in the closet is getting higher and higher.
Ps...the DT pic? So. Frickin. Adorbs.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I follow you on Bloglovin.
This is of course a shameless attempt to have all 3 entries in your giveaway. A girl's gotta import fabric into the hell that is Stashpocalypse one way or another! ;) Doesn't say anything about lottery winnings or gifts in the Manifesto....
I think the most loved quilt in my house is the first quilt that came into my life. I'll share it one day. It was hand pieced by my husbands grandmother and was given to us on our wedding.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on bloglovin and I love the story of your well loved quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt, Jenn, and the pic of little DT. Which one is it? BT or GT? Not sure about the most loved quilt in my house, depends who you ask, I guess, but my colourful wonky log cabin lives on the basement couch that faces the big screen TV, so I would say that's my husband's favourite, purely for practical purposes ;)
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm thinking about which is my favourite quilt I'll say I follow on blogger.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite quilt is my poor old worn out churn dash. An early quilt and it was my first try at my own thing. Kinda scrappy but still following all the rules about innner border and outer border. But the colours were my sensibility! not that there is much colour left! lol I really should at least rebind it.
ReplyDeleteI follow via Bloglovin. Your quilt is beautiful and the Kona was perfect to pair up with the Amy Butler prints.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quilt is a quilt I made in memory of my grandmama and the flowers from her garden (my other grandmother, Sadie, not the mentioned in this TBT)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty color combination! There isn't anything better than a snuggly quilt, except for a very loved quilt. The baby, the quilt wrapped around ... contentment and bliss!
ReplyDeleteMy most love quilt was one my daughter made me (my first quilt), I wore it out! Binding is coming undone, stitches coming out. It was loved to death!!
Following via bloglovin!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the more a quilt is used, the more love works its way into the fibers. This one is definitely a super special quilt, Jenn! Our most used quilt in our home would be the quilt I made as a wedding gift for my husband. It used to be on our bed 24/7/365, but realizing that it was going to need a bit less use to hang around for another 10 years, I made a second quilt for our bed and we only pull out the first quilt in the winter when we need a bit more warmth. I've already redone the binding on it once and figure I'll get to do that again another time or two!
ReplyDeleteThe Civil War quilt I made is one of my all-time favorites. You can read in my post how it resides in our grandson's house as an heirloom but it's my favorite all the same.
ReplyDeleteMy second favorite is the "Goodnight Dear" quilt I made last year for our bed.
I follow you by email. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics Jenn, especially precious of DT! Love that first comment with love bursting:)
ReplyDeleteMy most loved quilt here at home was made by my Grandmother before she passed. Perhaps that will be share #7!
Thank you for another lovely TT!
HI,already some beautiful Links! Thanks for sharing!Happy to follow you via gmail. msstitcher1214@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteGlad to link up "My Grandmother's Quilt" a 100+year heirloom quilt that I love because of all the hand work in it! Just beautiful like my Grandmother was. msstitcher1214@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteI think my most treasured quilt isn't one I made, it is one my grandmother made for my mom. It is a double wedding ring quilt with a simple muslin background. It is stained and the colors aren't anything I would pick, but I love it. It has a ton of work in it, and I know it was done out of love.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite sad I didn't get a post written this time around, but I'm enjoying reading all of the other Throwbacks. The most loved quilt in my house is probably the one I made my daughter. She sleeps with it on her bed and takes it everywhere with her when she's staying away.
ReplyDeleteAs "favorite" I'm going to have to go with "most used." It's a Trip Around the World lap quilt that has been in our family room for years (there's a picture of it in my Throwback Thursday post). It's light weight enough to use when the AC is on in the summer but is the perfect snuggle quilt when it's cold.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks so cozy and well-loved. (Quilts become real when they're used, you know.) I finally got my act together and started using Bloglovin' so that's where I follow you now.
ReplyDeleteOur favourite quilt, if judged in usage hours, is one I got for free from the local classifieds. Someone had downsized and was giving away the last box of things she couldn't find a home for; I was there for a bedside lamp, and there was a grandmother's garden appliqué quilt in heinous colours (second border in dick-hunter camo) which she said would go to the dog shelter if I didn't want it. I figured I could practice FMQ on it but never have. Turns out it's all nice and broken in, soft inside and out, and I don't freak out if my kids build forts with it and then break "sieges" by performing flying jump bombs onto it.
ReplyDeleteI get blog updates direct to email. I won't get around to posting for TBT, but I AM totally on board with TYFTS
ReplyDeleteQuilt #13 above is from my blog. The current most-loved quilt in our home is actually not at home right now! It is being displayed in a nearby college's art gallery. It is my husband's couch quilt for which he chose both the fabric and the pattern, and we call it "Old Time Rows." I'll get a pic for my blog when it's returned. I follow the Quarter Inch blog through my blogger feed and I read every single post! Thank you for this linky party and the chance to add your charm pack to my stash.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so soft looking and beautiful. I think the diagonal quilting looks lovely. The most loved quilt in my home is called Indian Hatchet, it is a scrappy quilt. It is my all time favorite and I have been quilting for over 25 years, so that says a lot.
ReplyDeleteI follow you via e-mail. Thank you for the daily inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt that is showing the most love in our house is the scrappy triangles quilt. It is not my favourite, but it is the one used on our bed, the dog sleeps on it and it has endured the most frequent washing. It will be the one to wear out with use first, and that has to mean something, right?
ReplyDeleteI love the robins egg blue of your quilt. I can see why you love this colour so much.
This quilt just looks like a snuggly one! And the picture of DT is too adorable, definitely a keep and frame kind of picture. :) My most loved quilt in the house is probably my Supernova quilt. Everybody (fur kids included) is constantly snuggling up with it. If I've had a bad day or feel sick, the first thing I do is wrap up in it for a few minutes of peace and quiet. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I follow on blogger!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome photo of BT. This is a great quilt. My current most loved is Gravity on my bed. But it's my blue nine-patch with applique hearts that's on the sofa that is currently getting the most use. Have to showcase that for another TBT.
ReplyDeleteI follow on Bloglovin...and in person.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fairly new quilter so there's only one finish in my house. Believe me it's well loved!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt! So soft and pretty! In my house our most loved quilt is the Dresdan Plate quilt that I made from some unfinished blocks that my Grandmother stitched up while my Grandfather was away during WW2. It's a family treasure.
ReplyDeleteI happily follow you on BL.
ReplyDeletePretty quilt and your pics are lovely too!
ReplyDeleteMy most loved quilt is the warmest. I always fall asleep under it :) I follow via bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteJen that photo of your wee babe double-snuggled in your quilt is so precious. Love seeing this quilt on the snow! We still have none! I can't narrow it down to one most-loved quilt: it cold be the first one I made (which might be, now I think of it the one I made for my Barbies and which I still have), or the real first one, the quilt for my eldest, or maybe my Seaside Rose, or maybe it's the current one which I'm quilting for my youngest, or the Buggy Barn Christmassy one I just took off our bed, or the one with Minky on the back, ya, no can't do it.
