Friday Finish - A Wee Bit of Tula...

Mini minis. It's an addiction, people. There's something so satisfying about going from idea to finished quilt in a few hours. Love it. Lisa In Port Hope and I got to chatting about Glamp Stitchalot and decided to do a little swap. 

When I saw that Lisa has recently added some Tula Pink Eden to her stash, it seemed like a perfect chance to use some of the scraps from Tula Tigers for T. It just goes to show that you don't need to sew big stuff to use large scale prints! Those strips are ½ inch finished. Yup. Crazy town.

I couldn't resist fussy cutting that little tiger for the centre. And since I wasn't really able to show off those lovely large Eden tigers in the log cabin strips, I thought one of them would be great for the back!

 And the quilting? Spirals, of course... to soften all those wee little strips.

 It seems to work for the tiger too!

 I used Amanda Jean @ Crazy Mom Quilts' tutorial on how to bind tiny things. It's a great tutorial!

I love the play of light and dark of a log cabin.

Honestly, I should make more of these!

Lisa was very happy with this little lovely.

As was I with this cheerful springy mini mini!

 Look at those pinwheels! So tiny. And FMQ wind? Perfect!

Friday Finish (& A Giveaway) - Tula Tigers for T

Finishes seem to be few and far between at A Quarter Inch from the Edge lately, but thanks to last week-end's MMQG retreat, I've got one to share! It's Tula Tigers for T, one of my goals for Q2 of 2016 Finish A-Long.

Though it's far from their usual habitat, these Tula Tigers needed to get outside. We're still a little ways from green, but at least it lets the colours of this quilt shine! The quilt is made using a fat quarter bundle of Tula Pink's Eden in the from Fabric Please!

  The quilting mimics the triangles and flying geese blocks that formed as I laid out the random blocks.

I was really tempted to use the tiger print on the back, but I'm taking a risk with this quilt already, so I went for a safer print, Labyrinth in Glacier.  To use as much of my FQ bundle as possible, I pieced a section for the back. This is great cost saver too when you want to use a fancy print for backing. By piecing a section and adding a strip of Kona Silver, I only had to buy half the backing fabric.

  I wasn't sure about the random layout to begin with, but it's grown on me!

 There's something about a path like this that makes me want to keep on walking. Perhaps another day!

I know, I know. Pictures with shadows aren't cool. But the angles they made sort of worked with this quilt!

The binding features Kona Silver and scraps of the Tula prints from the top. I wanted to use as much of the FQ bundle as possible!

Don't you just love a quilt roll? When I'm gifting a quilt, I very often just roll it and a pretty ribbon around it.

Favourite Part(s): Making blocks from a library book and the hope that this quilt will make a loved one smile. Fingers crossed on those tigers!

Friday Flimsy Finish - Tula Tigers for T

As I've said before, when things are rough for people I love, I'm sometimes feel stuck. Words don't always help. And with a busy homelife of my own,  being there with a hot meal or a sweet treat isn't always possible. But you know what? I can quilt. There can be extra love sewn in.

And there's lots sewn into this flimsy made from FQ bundle of Tula Pink's Eden.

If you're wondering about these blocks, they're Crudité blocks from the book, Quilts du Jour. Each block comes in a 8 or 16 inch version and has a number of different ways it can be put together. So many options!

I'm never 100% sure about those tigers. Are they awesome? Are they too much? In any case, my inability to cut them up led to these 16 inch blocks! ☺

It's not a huge quilt - measuring roughly 48 by 64 - but it's big enough to curl up under. And to bring some smiles to someone special who needs them.

Sunday Stash - January Acquisitions

If you're documenting signs of the Stashpocalypse (© Val @ Purple Boots and Pigtails), a major one occurred today. The ever entertaining Molli Sparkles has drafted a Stash Manifesto and linked it up. Yup. That's as sure a sign as earthquakes and Aurifil thread going up 70% in price.

All that said, we're one month into The Year of The Stash and I'm feelin' good. Yes, I've been to the fabric store. And that's okay. To keep myself honest, and to encourage all of you, I'm sharing this month's additions to the stash - keeping in mind that this might have been one trip to the fabric store a year ago!

Sometimes fabric just shows up in one's mailbox! This FQ bundle of Tula Pink's Eden is courtesy of Fabric Please! Soon it will be made into something lovely. And when it is, you'll have a chance to win this same bundle! Winnings don't count as stash acquisitions... kind of like broken cookies.
Those tigers must be fussy cut. And don't get me started on the selvages. Ah, sweet selvages! I feel like I hit the jackpot with 5 out 8 FQs having printed selvage.

Oh, Konas... how can I resist your siren's song? I've been doing really well resisting, except that Quilting Protection Program Project #1 required a few more green for its pieced back. So I snagged hunks of Leprechaun, Jungle, and Basil  I know I've been teasing you forever on this one, but a reveal is imminent. Let me say it again -  imminent.

And some Timeless Treasures Crosshatch Sketch in Red. I'm sorry to say that J-Boy's Good Old Hockey Game is in need of some repairs Appliqué and I are not friends. 

Last week-end, DT, Himself and I took a little road trip to Cape Breton. And since that's well outside of my 2 hour radius when it comes to quilt shops, I popped in to The Mira Stichin' Post and picked up a couple treats.

Some low volume and a pretty grey by Stof. Not a company I'm familiar with, but apparently it's based in Denmark. I'm plotting some low volume shenanigans for my month of the Birthday Bonus Club and a little more might be needed!

Who can resist a wee bit of sunshine? I have Michael Miller's Mod Basics Stitch Square in a couple other colours, but no yellow. (Thanks to Vicki Price for filling in the blank for me on this one!)

The elusive Wonder Tape! For those members of the Mighty Lucky Quilt Club, this is an essential tool for January's bias tape challenge. That's why I haven't done mine. No Wonder Tape. Yup. That's my excuse.

And because he linked up with me (insert me, squealing like a teenage girl at The Beatles' first Ed Sullivan performance, here), I'm linking up with Sunday Stash @ Molli Sparkles. Oh. My. Blog. Is it wrong that I very much want the fabric he feaured showed today? If I beg my friend in Australia to send it to me, it doesn't count as a stash acquisition, right?
