It's been a busy week! So busy that I really haven't been sewing much or even surfing around the interwebs for patterns. So in the interest of keeping up with May is for Makers, I've decided to profile a pattern that I purchased a few months ago. I figure I can support Indie pattern makers without actually buying one this week!
I fell in love with this beauty from Sugar House Shop on Etsy back at Christmas time. I love Advent calendars... probably because it's not a tradition my family was into when I was a kid.
Isn't it lovely? My plan was to make a couple ornaments a month and be all done in time for December 1. Ummm... the plan hasn't come to fruition. But I've still got 6 months! Anyone have experience buying felt? I need a lot of different colours and I don't think I can get it locally.

I love this. It's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI recommend something like this for getting your felt: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/74468523/felt-wool-felt-sheets-choose-any-twenty?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=felt&ref=sr_gallery_1
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful advent calandar. It's much more attractive than the usual.
ReplyDeleteFabricspark.com. They're in Toronto.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen an advent calendar like that before. It's super cute. I'm no help on the felt though. :/
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute Jenn! You can buy rainbow packs of wool blend felt on Etsy. Here's one example: https://www.etsy.com/listing/60704437/4-premium-wool-blend-felt-rainbow-stack?ref=shop_home_active_29
ReplyDeleteOh I love this advent calendar. I have a bunch of panels unearthed in my stash clean up session. Really - how many times do I need to do a count down to Christmas….
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Advent Calendars were/are a huge tradition at my parents house....my mom still buys us advent calendars every year. It may start to change with their first grandchild arriving in October though....I will miss my chocolates lol
ReplyDeleteThat is cute! Looking forward your creation :)
ReplyDeleteHow delightful! I'll definitely have to check out this Etsy shop! I love your new header! It looks so professional! Felt? I'd just buy the squares of all the colors you'd need. I'm sure Atlantic a Fabrics carries them. I have a stash I use from time to time and I've had very good luck with them. XO
ReplyDeleteI made something similar-ish to this last year: giant head/antlers, no date pockets, and instead of ornaments I did lightbulbs. I had to do two of each colour to keep it fair among the kids but I had well over 12 colours of felt! I just put a bit of hook velcro on the back of each light "socket" which stuck well enough to the felt.

Good luck with yours!
Why is good wool felt so hard to find? I had to order mine online from a lady in Tasmania.
ReplyDeleteJust looking through my stats and noticed your wonderful blog! Thank you for saying such nice things about my little pattern. And I'm super excited to see yours completed! I can tell you right now it will be amazing! You still have a ton of time to finish before December 1st too. The great thing about this project is you can easily take the little ornaments with you on vacation and stitch a bit here and there. I purchased my felt from Benzie (listed in the pattern), but they are in the US, which may not be quite local enough. :) Your twins are going to simply adore this tradition! They are lucky to have such a talented mama.
