Oh how I love a Selv-EDGE!

It's check in day at the Selvage Along @ Quilt Habit and Quilts of a Feather. I can't say that I've set my mind on a particular project, but that's okay since the Selvage Along doesn't finish up until September 21. That's loads of time... says the procrastinator!

Whenever I just feel like sewing and don't know what, I make selvage blocks. I don't worry much about what they're going to become. I'm just making them and I'll see what they turn into down the road!
Now you can see why my selvage bin is organized the way it is. These blocks are foundation pieced on muslin. I mark a 45° line on the corner and use it as a guide for topstitching the selvages. I keep a bunch of foundations prepped for whenever I feel like stitching up a block.
I also have a lot of teal fabric in my stash which means a lot of teal selvages. ☺

Lately, I've been thinking about cutting these 8 inch squares down to 4 inch and putting them together into something... but what?!
I'm linking up today with Quilty Habit & Quilts of a Feather. I love the pace of this quilt along. The way the tutorials are spaced out, you have a chance to make something. Unless you haven't been saving selvages... then you're in trouble!

  4. I haven't been saving selv-edges, so I am definitely in trouble. So my check in today is the slow growth of my meager stash. Gotta start somewhere, right? I do like that you make these blocks along the way waiting for inspiration to strike. I look forward to seeing what they become. :)

  5. I saved my first selvedge yesterday and couldn't help but think of your stash of them! Lol. I love these blocks, so colorful and rainbow-y. Great idea using a muslin base, I was wondering how you pieced all those strips together just right. :)

  6. Haha! That was our goal - to lead a sew a long that wasn't rushed or involved a lot of commitments. Just fun. :) These are awesome blocks! Great work!

  7. Holy crap, I knew there was a lot of teal in there but there is A LOT of teal in there. And to think I have maybe half a dozen pieces. But I do love those selvages.

  8. ahmm I might be in that last camp - have none saved - only a teeny tiny bit jealous now and wondering why on Earth I threw them away?

  9. The blocks keep multiplying. And yes that is a lot of teal, but they look great. Keep sewing until inspiration hits.

  13. I love the colourwash effects you are achieving here.
I keep my selvedge projects small - bags, pouches, etc. If you cut your teal blocks down to 4 inches, you could make coasters!
