May is for Makers - Week 5 and a Recap!

It's hard to believe that May (and May is for Makers!) is drawing to a close.

Week 1 - Paper piecing pattern from Tiny Toffee Designs (Etsy)
Week 2 - Paper piecing pattern from The Night Quilter (Craftsy)
Week 3 - Cross-stitch pattern from Satsuma Street (Etsy)
Week 4 - Wool felt Advent calendar from Sugar House Shop (Etsy)

And what did I choose for Week 5? I decided to have a good hard look at my Craftsy wishlist. So dangerous! In the end, I opted for one from Quiet Play.  Kristy has awesome paper piecing patterns and I'm pretty smitten with her blog too!

Given DT's current obsession with "tor-tell"s, I should probably get working on this one sooner rather than later! Thanks for playing along with May is for Makers. If you're looking for even more great Indie pattern designers, here are some of my other favs:

May is for Makers - Week 4

It's been a busy week! So busy that I really haven't been sewing much or even surfing around the interwebs for patterns. So in the interest of keeping up with May is for Makers, I've decided to profile a pattern that I purchased a few months ago. I figure I can support Indie pattern makers without actually buying one this week!

I fell in love with this beauty from Sugar House Shop on Etsy back at Christmas time. I love Advent calendars... probably because it's not a tradition my family was into when I was a kid.

Isn't it lovely? My plan was to make a couple ornaments a month and be all done in time for December 1. Ummm... the plan hasn't come to fruition. But I've still got 6 months! Anyone have experience buying felt? I need a lot of different colours and I don't think I can get it locally.

May is for Makers - Week 3

Ah... another week of surfing the web, checking out patterns by indie makers. So hard to choose! I'm mixing it up a little this week.
Impossible : Satsuma Street Jody Rice counted cross stitch patterns sayings Nelson Mandela embroidery thecottageneedle wall art
Yup. Cross stitch. I love me a quote and this one from Nelson Mandela speaks to me. When I was working away on my stitchable iPhone case, I found myself really enjoying it. It's been a long, long time since my cross-stitch days... think university! And so, I've chosen this pattern from Satsuma Street on Etsy. I suspect I'll be heading to Michaels for some supplies this week!

It's not too late to jump on the May is for Makers bandwagon. Still two weeks left! Who knows what I'll find for next week!

May is for Makers - Week 2

Ack! It's Tuesday again and I missed my Monday posting goal. Oops. Better late than never. This week, I've chosen a pattern from my bloggy pal, Kitty @ Night Quilter. I won a few of her patterns, but never bought one. She's such a talented quilter and generous friend! I've selected her newest pattern, Bean Sprout - more paper piecing!
I love how Kitty encourages a love of nature in her kiddos and hope I can walk a similar path with DT! This will make a fun little pillow or maybe a mini quilt.

I managed to make something from the pattern I bought last week from Tiny Toffee Designs. Yes, this fox is as wee as it looks!

It's not too late to jump on the May is for Makers bandwagon. Indie pattern makers can always use your support... perhaps it just means buying a couple a week to catch up! ☺

Hmmm... what lovely little pattern will I find for next week?

May is for Makers!

I love a free tutorial as much as the next gal. God knows I blog about enough of them. But there are some very talented people out there on the interwebs selling their wares. Specifically, they're indie pattern makers. There's a little movement taking shape this month and I aim to be part of it.

I've taken the pledge below (almost) directly from Lindsay @ LR Stitched whose brainchild all this is!

For the month of May, I am committing to support a different pattern maker each week.
I will purchase 5 patterns over the course of the 5 weeks and with each purchase I make, I will tell a pattern maker that their work matters.  My purchase will tell them that I am grateful for the time, effort and passion they put into their brand. I will be sharing my pattern purchase each Monday (well, except for this first one!) on my blog.

There are so many amazing patterns out there that it might be a challenge for me to limit myself to just one a week. But I will... primarily because I want to actually make the items for which I buy the patterns and my time is, well, limited! (Who's isn't? Damn you, Hermione Granger, and your precious Time Turner!)

So this week, I'm going to buy something wee... very wee... from a designer I've supported before. You might remember these mini minis.
They're made from a pattern from Tiny Toffee Designs on ETSY. I've wanted to buy her itsy bitsy paper pieced hexie patterns from the moment I saw them. And guess what? I'm treating myself! Off I go to do some digital downloading!

P.S. I hope you'll consider joining the May is for Makers shenanigans. These talented creators give so much to our quilting community. Show them some love!
