WIP Wednesday - Happy Mother's Day to me!

Can I brag just for a minute? Okay? Great! I got an awesome Mother's Day present. Some studio time! Himself twin wrangled and I sewed.... after I chowed down on pancakes and bacon. Yum! It gave me a chance to finish almost all of the Star Point on Technicolor Galaxy. The purple zone really needed some help... I took Val's advice and dumped all evidence of mauve. Here's the before....

 I picked up these (Purple, Midnight, Eggplant) to fix the problem.

 And the after shot. Complete with the Sangria edged Star Point that needed some attention as well.

I even got the low volume and print points done... all but one. I'm having trouble finding the right transition fabric to get me from dark red to plum. MMQGers, help!

Speaking of MMQG, it's the last day of our Meet Maritime Modern Blog Hop. Insert sad face here. I've had lots of fun learning new things about my guildmates and admiring their fabulous quilts. Between whisky drinking and free piecing, this woman is a marvel. She also coined the term "Kona Nerd" to describe certain members of our guild. For the record, I prefer "Kona Badass". No Finish Friday!

Alas, this week has been a gong show for daytime naps, so I have no finish to share with you. I'm happy to say that I managed some time for a few starpoints on Technicolor Galaxy and a trip to the post office to mail some Polaroid blocks. And got out for a couple walks in the megastroller with DT as part of the 30x30 Challenge!

Thankful Thursday!

My bloggy pal, Yvonne @ Quilting JetGirl has started a lovely little Thursday link-up all about gratitude. I don't often contribute, but each week when I read her post, I get to thinking about the things I am thankful for. Not a bad way to spend some time! But this week, I'm going a little further.

I am so thankful for my Maritime Modern Quilt Guild.

We're new and smallish, but neither of those things holds us back from having lots of fun! As someone who doesn't get out of the house as much as she used to (hmmmm... I wonder why), our Sew Ins and meetings are often high points in my month. I've already written a love letter or two about it, but it's worth saying again. Being with a group of creative, like-minded individuals makes my day!

And we just happen to be a few days into our first ever Meet Maritime Modern Blog Hop.

WIP Wednesday - Snappin' a few Polaroids!

A while back, Carla @ Granny Maud's Girl made some Polaroid blocks for a swap. It got me thinking about the blocks I had made for Global Scrap Bee. Hmm... those were fun. Hmmm... an I Spy quilt would be good for building DT's vocabulary. And that's where the trouble/fun began!

I made them using the tutorial from Capitola Quilter. You know, in case you can't resist them either!

 Sometimes I even had a little help...

 Apparently, GT likes thread. They make a satisfying noise when they spin on the rack!

I have the quilting/bloggy village to thank for a lot of the prints in these blocks. Jeannette @ Stamp Stitch Create has awesome fabric taste and colour sense. Boy, was I happy to dive into the bag of scraps she dropped off!

There were even some selvages in there!

Yvonne @ Quilting JetGirl was also kind enough to send me some goodies. Many were even pre-cut! I love those little chipmunks.

And if that wasn't cool enough, Lynn @ Buttons Quilts and I are swapping some blocks to give the quilt even more variety. We both pledged not to send any of the Ann Kelle animal prints we're so fond of. I may have gotten a little out of control... but they're not all for me!

My stop on the Meet MMQG Blog Hop!

Welcome to A Quarter Inch from the Edge and my stop on the Meet Maritime Modern Blog Hop! I'm very excited to be participating and hope you'll enjoy all the stops on the hop. Here I am... 

I'm usually the one behind the camera, not in front! I'm a Middle School French teacher by trade, but I'm currently on maternity leave with my nearly 6 month old twins. They're known collectively in blogland as Double Trouble (DT) or indvidually as GT and BT. I've been quilting for 17 years and loving fabric for a whole lot longer. I can't say I was always a modern quilter, but floral was never my thing!

A few short snappers about me:

• I have a mild obsession with Kona. (See Kona Love)
• I'm a life long Girl Guide. And yes, I have cookies for sale.
• Sewing is my favourite form of stress management (apart from chocolate).
• I am a strong proponent of breakfast dessert. 
• My travel research always includes local quilt shops.
  
• I am unable to resist watching the following movies if I come across them on TV: Footloose, Forest Gump, and School of Rock. And I usually have TV shows or movies playing while I sew.
• My first ever quilt was a queen sized double Irish chain that I quilted horizontally & vertically every 2 inches.... on my little 'ole Singer. It was forest green... yikes!
• My dream job? Nail polish color namer (or Kona namer... I'm not picky!)
• Some items on my quilty bucket list: Hawaiian appliqué, orange peel, and something made with every colour of the Kona rainbow.

It's far from my only WIP, just the one I'm the most excited about! There's always at least half a dozen on the go... I keep a list that's updated each January.
