Friday Finish - Converging Corners

A fresh snowfall and a crisp new quilt... what could be better?
I have to confess... this quilt was not finished in 2015! The majority of the blocks for this quilt were made by my bee mates in the Global Scrap Bee. Back in July, I asked them to make blocks using Film in the Fridge's tutorial for Converging Corners. Some people even sent me two!
I finished this one up in October, but photoshoots weren't so easy then. I felt this one deserved some proper photos... even if they are just in my backyard
I just love a stripe-y binding. I was lucky enough to find this striped print from Brrr! by Laurie Wisburn at my LQS to bind it. A number of prints from this collection made their way into this quilt.
The backing is a Riley Blake print... Songbird by Carina Gardner.
For the quilting, I used one of the patterns I learned in my Skill Builder BOM last year. I basically quilted small sections in back and forth vertical or horizontal lines. They're not particularly straight and aren't meant to be! :)
I opted to quilt only the white negative space... it really makes the strips of aqua & red prints pop!

  3. What a great finish from your global scrap bee blocks - I remember them! :) The photography with the quilt out in the snow really helps the colors to pop in the quilt, too. I like that you only quilted in the negative space to help give even more weight to the bursts of color.

  4. What great photos in the snow. That quilt looks really good against the white background. I like your quilting approach. Free form straight lines were a great idea. And the blocks really do stand out because you've left them unquilted. Did you really expect to be finishing quilts in January?

  6. Sweet finish! You choose a great block for scrappiness. I made one block when you posted about them last summer. Mine is thrown in with my Aurifil blocks, queued up for the design wall sometime this year!

  10. Gorgeous photos! Love that quilt - the colours, the pattern - but especially the quilting. What a compliment to the overall design! How appropriate that the binding was "Brr!"

  18. My comment seems to have gotten gobbled up so I'm rewriting. Hopefully I don't duplicate. I loved your colour choice when we were working on the blocks and it has come together beautifully. Absolutely gorgeous quilt (love the quilting design too!)

  20. Love this quilt! Converging Corners is a design that constantly tells me I really want to make one. And you've reminded me - I have a finish from that same time frame that still needs a photo op!

  21. I love how this is a scrap quilt made by many hands but it looks planned. Is that what people mean by 'planned scrappy'? How is it that the background fabric looks the same? Obviously, a good idea and brief from the queen bee (and a good team) can produce lovely things.
